Infrared/ IR Touch Frame
A matrix of Infrared (IR) LEDs and photo diodes are used to create a two dimensional grid over the display to detect where infrared light is blocked and thus where touchpoints are. IR Touch Frame Technology
IR touch screen frame technology may not be new, but it remains a favorite. It tends to be employed in large-format displays and some kiosks and point-of-sale (POS) terminals. The custom touch screen display has a long life, furthering its popularity in the digital signage and interactive display markets.
How IR touch frame Red Works:
Infrared touch technology requires a perimeter to be placed around the infrared touch screen. The perimeter consists of infrared LEDs placed on two sides of the IR touch frame and phototransistors placed on the opposing two sides. The two sides then work in pairs; the signal from the LED transistor is read by its opposing phototransistor. When that signal is interrupted, it indicates a blocked infrared beam, which, in turn, indicates a touch point. While most infrared custom touch screen display doesn’t require a touchscreen, a glass overlay usually is recommended in order to protect the underlying display.
